Situated high on the Cornish Cliffs close to Newquay, RAF St Mawgan had its origins in the pre-war aerodrome at Trebelzue Farm. It became operational during 1943 and in 1945 the base saw large-scale diversions of RAF Bomber Command and US 8th Air Force formations returning from raids over occupied Europe.
