The Gloster Meteor was one of the first jet-powered fighter aircraft and was used in the late stages of World War II. The F.8 variant became the mainstay of RAF Fighter Command in the early 1950s before being replaced by the Hawker Hunter in frontline service. The Meteor continued to be used for various purposes before being decommissioned in the 1970s.
