The J-20S is based on the J-20 airframe, with a lengthened canopy to accommodate a second seat. The second crew member is not tasked with training but operates as a mission systems officer responsible for managing electronic warfare tasks, coordinating long-range strike missions, controlling stealth drones such as loyal wingmen, and overseeing real-time network-centric operations. This dual-crew layout is intended to reduce pilot workload and improve mission effectiveness, particularly during extended-range operations. The J-20 is estimated to have nearly double the combat radius of U.S. F-22 or F-35 fighters.
The J-20S possibly in a command and coordination role. It is positioned not only as an air superiority fighter but also as an airborne tactical node capable of managing manned and unmanned systems, including future platforms such as the Dark Sword UCAV. The Chengdu J-20 is a modern Chinese 5th generation fighter plane. The prototype flight took place in 2011. In March 2017, the machine entered the lines of the Chinese Air Force, achieving limited combat capability. In total, about 20 serial copies of this aircraft were made. The drive is provided by two motors Shenyang WS-10G . The aircraft has a maximum speed of 2 Ma. The machine probably has on-board armament. The unit cost of the plane is estimated at $ 110 million (USD), however this is probably an understated price.
Work on the fifth-generation fighter, conceptually similar to the American F-22 Raptor, began in the PRC in the late 1990s at the Chengdu Aerospace concern. However, the J-20 was first presented to the public in 2016. The Chengdu J-20 was built in a duck-like arrangement with delta wings, probably using a very large number of composite materials. It is assumed that it has very high maneuverability and - for sure - it has stealth properties. Most likely, it was equipped with highly advanced electronic equipment, and it can certainly carry a wide variety of missiles and laser-guided bombs. Comparing the J-20 to the F-22 is very difficult due to the concealment of many data on this first aircraft by the Chinese air force.
